Backpack Please check your child’s backpack daily for important information. Also, clearly label your child’s backpack with their name (inside or outside). Your child should be able to open and close the backpack independently. Back packs need to be a good size to carry lunches, folders (10x13), a towel etc.
Extra Clothes Accidents happen! Please send a set of spare clothes in a labeled Ziploc bag to keep in your child’s locker. Please label all spare clothing with your child’s name; especially coats, hats, and mittens, as these are frequently misplaced. When sending your child to school keep in mind that we will do a variety of activities throughout the day such as painting, planting, using clay, etc.
Shoes We will go outside 2-3 times a day. Because we are so active during the day, it is recommended that children do not wear sandals, flip-flops, or clogs to school. Your child will also need to have sneakers or athletic shoes to wear on gym days. If your child does not know how to tie shoes, it would be helpful (but is not necessary) if he/she has Velcro shoes.
Towel The days will be long for your kindergartener, especially at the beginning of the year. In the afternoon, we will have a short 25 minutes of quiet rest time. Your child will spend this time resting on a towel with the lights dimmed and with soft music playing. A beach or bath towel must be sent in on the first day of school. Towels will be sent home on Fridays to be washed and replaced for Monday. If you want your child to bring the towel home every night, please make your child knows your expectations.
Water Bottles Much research has proven that water is necessary to nourish the growth of the brain’s network system. Your child is welcome to bring in a water bottle. Please make sure it is labeled with their name. The hydration stations are open for refilling water bottles.
Lunch Box If choosing cold lunch, please send your child to school with a labeled lunch box/bag. If choosing hot lunch, you can send cash/check to school in an envelope to be sent to the cafeteria. The cafeteria staff will directly deposit this into your child's lunch account. Or you can deposit money into your child's account using Parent Connect.
Friday Folder (a.k.a. Hound Dog Folder) These are Hilton folders that come home on Fridays. They will contain notes, book orders, calendars, and student work. These folders need to be returned the following Monday empty so they can be filled for the following week.
